Want to live and work in amazing locations across America, and create memories that last a lifetime? Mobilize is the perfect way to do just that. Mobilizer William headed to New England for his work/travel adventure this past May. Here’s his story:

Meet William Simon

This Mobilizer hails from beautiful Sunrise, Florida, a city in the Miami metropolitan area. After attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, William worked in telemarketing before discovering the Mobilize employment program. “I wanted to get away and travel, explore!”

William began his Mobilize experience in Woodstock, Vermont, a historic and charming New England town located in the heart of the Green Mountains. Although the start of his placement wasn’t what he expected, William says, “It’s a humbling experience but gratifying. It’s an experience where you can slowly find yourself.”

Since being deployed in Vermont, William has worked at the classic and beautiful Woodstock Inn as a kitchen steward, where he says he has met lots of very friendly people from a multitude of backgrounds.

A welcoming location

Woodstock, a pedestrian village surrounded with historic buildings and located in Vermont’s countryside is quite different from William’s hometown of Sunrise. William says that his favorite thing about his placement location is this: “Everything is within walking distance of work. Everyone has been wonderful. It has a great sense of self and community.”

During his downtime, William likes to take walks around the town, spend time with the friends he’s made through the program, and enjoy the nightlife Woodstock offers. “My best experience was just hanging out with people from different cultures and having a good time.”

William even had the opportunity to visit Boston, which is only a couple of hours drive from Woodstock.

So what is William taking away from his Mobilize adventure?

“You never stop humbling yourself and every situation can be fun if you make it that way,” says William. “Everything will fall into place and you will have a wonderful time.”

If you’re a prospective Mobilizer, William says, “It’s going to be a humbling experience so make the most of each experience. Have fun and meet people.”
